Fixing Up the House

I love my Mom, I just love her. There's no one like her in the world. We're having some work done in the house and a man came with heavy tools that screech and bang and have big red wires hanging out of them. It was very noisy and nothing was the way it was supposed to be. I tried to hide but there was no place to get away from all the noise. I was saying like this: "Eerp, eeerp, EEERP!" It means "help help help" (which is Anne Lamott's prayer if you ever read her books). There was so much noise I was too upset to even waa for food. My Mom heard me eerping and came over and said, "Panther, sweetheart, Sister Panther Rose, it's okay. No one is going to hurt you." When I heard her voice, I knew she loved me and all of a sudden I felt a whole lot less afraid.
