Dear Mom,

I know this will come as a surprise but - I have run off and gotten married! I am now a Married Cat! I am so happy! I am married to a wonderful Tiger striped male named Sam. He is a Rabbi! I am now Panther Rose Katz! We are Rabbi Sam and Mrs. Panther Katz!

I met Sam when he came to speak at a Tea at the Order of Felines. I was wearing a pink spandex dress and long white gloves. We looked at each other from across the room and - yes! -I knew he was for me!

I have left the Order and will convert to Judaism. I am now The Rebbe, the Rabbi wife.

I think we should stop writing. Instead, let's speak often on the phone (though not on Friday nights!) Our love will never stop.

I know you want what's best for me and, secretly, I've always wanted to be a married Cat.

My love to you,
Panther

Dear Mom,

Thank you for telling me your dog, Rosey-Petunia, is having a birthday tomorrow. She will be 13? I guess I have to say something now that I know...

Happy Birthday, Rosey-Petunia. Are you having cake? What kind? Maybe you can send me a piece. I like white cake with buttercream frosting and lemon filling the best. My birthday is in March so maybe you can remember to get me a cake like that. Lemon filling, not chocolate.

Love,

Dear Mom,

I read your letter out loud to some of the sisters. We had such a good laugh at the part where you say you are going to take Peppy to PetSmart for training! HaHaHa! They are going to teach him to walk and to sit! HaHaHa! He knows how to walk and he knows how to sit! He was born knowing it! This is what I don't understand about dogs. The proper (Cat-like) response to "Sit!" is, "When I want to." Oh, Peppy! It's about Dignity and Saving Face...not obedience.

Dear Mom,

Thank you for telling me about your new foster dog, Peppy. Thank you for his picture. He looks very nice, that is if you like dogs which you do - though personally I think they are stupid what with their soft eyes and demeaning tendency to please. It is nice that Peppy speaks Chinese Crested since you understand the language. In its spoken version, it is sufficient but not at all elegant like my High Cat. Does Peppy read? I suppose if he does it is on an elementary level. He would not be sophisticated like me. Well, whatever, enjoy him. Thank you for showing him the picture of me that's hanging on your bedroom wall. He can see for himself that I'm beautiful. (And I must say that I become more beautiful every day.)

Dear Mom,

Whhaaahaahaa. I know I can cry to you my dear and cherished Mom. Some of the Sisters here have been pierced by the briars and thorns of life, stung by the scorpions tail, not to mention stabbed by the needles of cactus. It has been a sad time and I have wept many a salty tear. Whhaaahaahaa. Oh, whhaaahaahaa.

As a result, my appetite has been rather lost. Last night at dinner I didn't even have dessert! (It was a kind of custard I don't like.) Today, though, I feel a bit more 'up' and I'm heading for the dining room now.

Dear Mom,

Happy New Year! It's hard to believe it's already 2011!

We had a great New Year's Eve celebration here! I wore a little black satin number and the champagne was flowing. Flowing! I enjoyed it a wee bit too much and spent some of New Year's day in my bedroom with a cool wash cloth over my eyes. Mid-afternoon I had tea and raspberry scones and then I felt better. By today I am fine!

I'm about to start a book called Listening to Your Inner Meow. It's a best seller and arrived just last week at our library. Maybe you'd like to suggest it for your Book Club! It's an inspirational book.

Happy 2011!

Dear Mom,

It's very quiet around here. Many of the Sisters are away for the holidays. Sister Fitness is here though (oh, wouldn't you just know) and she looks me up and down when we pass in the halls. I do my best to ignore her, she is a pain. Since there are less of us here, the Cooking Sisters have made simpler meals and the only thing for desert is a kind of plain white cake with vanilla icing. No raspberry tarts. Just this pale thing. We have it with tea.

Speaking of tea, I've been reading some English authors. I read in translation, British to Cat. We have a good Cat/British-British/Cat dictionary. If we lived in England, you would be my Mum!

Maybe you could send me some Kit Kats to tide me over until we go back to our regular meals.

With love,
Panther
